For the third year in a row, UK rental company Sound of Music took on the role of audio production provider to the annual TPI Awards, staged in one of London’s biggest corporate events venues, the Evolution in Battersea.  Hosted by Mondiale Publishing, the Awards are attended by 1700 production industry people.

We often say that a new NEXO system was provided but, in this case, it was absolutely true!  After catastrophic floods destroyed most of Sound of Music’s loudspeaker inventory, NEXO delivered new replacements, many of which were unboxed at the Evolution venue in time for the show!

Sound of Music boss Sash Pochibko took the opportunity to add GEO M12 modules to his stock, and these formed the core of the TPI Awards PA system.  L/R arrays of 6x GEO M12 modules, plus a centre cluster of 3x GEO M10, were supplemented by 10x MSUB18s, lined up on the ground behind the stage.  The dimensions of the Evolution required a line of delay clusters, L/C/R each with 3x GEO M10.

A separate bar area was served by its own suspended truss, featuring a giant glitter ball!  Audio was delivered by 3x GEO M6 modules on each corner of the grid, interspersed by ID24 cabinets. All amplification throughout was with NXAMPMk2 models.

NEXO’s newly-launched P12 cabinets were much in evidence, used as stage monitors and also to provide outfill to the very edge of the audience area.

Sound of Music’s success with the NEXO inventory was acclaimed by Stew Hume, editor of TPI magazine and one of the event’s organisers.  “This was my fifth TPi Awards and it was, without a doubt, the best production I have ever seen or heard at our annual event. Each department worked together seamlessly to create a jaw-dropping evening that was fit for – let’s face it – one of the toughest audiences imaginable. It was also a pleasure to welcome back Sash and the Sound of Music team that once again worked tirelessly to provide impeccable services for the third year running.”
