Coverage and clarity without being too loud: that was the brief given by the Krefeld Gemeinde des Herrn Jesus, a Christian church in Krefeld in western Germany, when they asked Ton & Technik to design and install a new sound system for their sanctuary.

With regular appearances by a band on stage, the Church needed a PA system that would deliver high-quality high SPL output which was accurate and musical without being ‘loud’.  “The system needed to handle the band music, as well as a classical choir and an orchestra,” explains Matthias Scheffe from TON & TECHNIK Scheffe GmbH.  “And of course it had to provide good coverage with perfect speech clarity for the services.”

Scheffe and Ton & Technik team chose NEXO’s GEO M10 mid-size line array for the project.  “Acoustically, it was not a difficult environment: the room was refurbished two years ago, with a lot of acoustic elements, and I was an adviser for that refurbishment project.  However, the existing PA needed to be upgraded, and the Church wanted a system from a well-recognised manufacturer. They were very clear that they wanted it to be a good investment.”

The all-white main PA comprises L/R clusters each with 4x GEO M1012 and 1x GEO M1025, each flown below a single MSUB15 subbass cabinet.  NEXO’s über-compact ID24 loudspeakers are used along the stage for frontfill.  White PS10 cabinets are flown, one behind each GEO M10 line array and one in the centre, providing the monitoring for the choir.  Stage monitoring is delivered by a pair of NEXO PS8s.

The system is controlled at front-of-house by a Yamaha QL5 digital audio console, with RIO1608 stagebox, and powered by NEXO’s next-generation amplifiers, 2x NXAMP4x2MK2 and 1x NXAMP4x1MK2.

“The amps are quiet, easy to use and completely reliable,” says Scheffe. “The Church is extremely pleased with its investment, which meets the brief and more when it comes to sound quality.”
